Happy Birthday Nick! I hope your day is great with friends and loved ones. Here’s my birthday graphic that I made with a message from myself. I hope you will like it!
As a Boyband Enthusiast, the first album I remember listening to was the Jackson 5. The first concert I attended was the New Kids on the Block. And though for several years in the 90’s, it seemed boybands might become extinct, by the time I got to college, the craze had circled back around with a vengeance. I attended my first Backstreet Boys concert in 2001 and had a blast, but I didn’t really get to see what all the fuss was about until last summer, when I attended four shows on the NKOTBSB tour and came away from the experience a full-blown Backstreet Boys fan.
Though all four guys elicit ear-piercing squeals from the ladies, it seems none so much as its youngest member and, coincidentally, my fellow Nashvillian, Nick Carter. And while Backstreet Boys will head overseas with the New Kids on the Block this spring to continue their wildly successful run, Nick has a little business to tend to on the homefront first – a nationwide solo tour. His latest solo effort is aptly titled “I’m Taking Off” – why? “I felt like this was my moment,” explains Nick. “I’m rising to the occasion and taking off.” As an accomplished writer, producer, and director, with a solo career that has resulted in more than one million albums sold worldwide, and the next leg of the NKOTBSB tour on the horizon, it seems the Backstreet Boy has become a Backstreet Man. And who better to weigh in on mysterious male behavior?

Nick Carter, 31, bad boy singer from the Backstreet Boys, is bringing a new tour February 10 to the Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac to support his second solo album “I’m Taking Off.”
The show in metro Detroit is special because Carter agreed to a backstage visit with 30-year-old Sarah Cheek, a longtime fan who was recently diagnosed with fourth stage breast cancer — after her husband reached out and said it would be her dream come true. What should she expect?
“We’re just going to have fun,” Carter said. “It’s going to be a great experience… They ask questions, and you have to feel the situation out. You never know what you’re going to get. Sometimes they’re shy. Other times they’re open and want to know everything. You just have to fun with it. I’m a normal guy. To them it might seem like I’m not …But I’m a normal guy.”
After 10 years of alcoholism and drug abuse, Carter revealed in 2009 he had a serious heart condition — cardiomyopathy — that could have led to death if he continued on a destructive path. But he’s now clean and sober.

Pop star shines with his second solo endeavor
Backstreet Boy Nick Carter has broken away from the pack and is touring in support of his sophomore album, I’m Taking Off. He’ll make his first stop on Jan. 28 at the Hard Rock Hotel’s Vanity nightclub, where he’ll not only perform an acoustic set but also show off his skills with a special DJ performance. He recently spoke with Las Vegas Magazine’s Kiko Miyasato about his new album and reveals if a seventh BSB release is in the works.
Q: Tell me the story behind your 2011 solo album I’m Taking Off.
A: The album is really sort of a coming out party for me. It’s my best to date. I wrote pretty much all of the songs, so I was able to put into my music all of my experiences, (from) my experiences with different writers to my different experiences in life. I was really able to pour it all into this album.
Q: Are there any tracks that are close to your heart?
A: I really love the song “Falling Down”; it’s one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written. I think every writer comes to a point in their life where they want to write a song that touches them, and that’s what that song does.
