Nick Carter: I’d prefer my kids to do sports than join the Backstreet Boys
Ex-Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, back on tour with New Kids On The Block, tells Metro about the ills of fame, crazy fans trying to get on his tour bus and why he’s better off without the alcohol and drugs he once knew.
What’s the tour all about?
It’s a collaboration, without sounding too egotistical, between two of the biggest pop bands of the past 20 years. We’re uniting to put on a hell of a show. We come on stage together, do a couple of songs, then our own material. It’s the experience of a lifetime for fans.
Have you noticed your audience changing over the years?
They’ve got older and have families but they’re just as excited and passionate as before. That’s what it’s all about. They believe they’re part of something special.

A second show for the NKOTBSB tour in London has been announced. Tickets are on sale now to fanclub members. For the general public tickets will go on sale November 11th at 9am. VIP will go on sale November 10 at 6pm.

Carter just fine being The One
While the Backstreet Boys have been enjoying a career revival — thanks to their annual S.S. Backstreet cruises for fans and their hit tour with the New Kids on the Block — BSB member Nick Carter has been finding success as a solo artist, as well.
He brings his act to Canada this week before heading to Japan and then boarding the cruise ship once more in December.
How are things going for you?
It’s going really good. I just got done at the gym, sort of preparing mentally and physically for the tour. And gearing up, you know? I’m excited.
You’re touring with a full band now, right?
Yeah, about four band members, yes. The show is jam-packed. It’s all set up and it’s going to be like a rock concert, but with pop and dance. It’s going to be a really cool, unique show — a lot different, actually, than a Backstreet Boys show.

Before fans are on the Backstreet Boys cruise the boys will be having a pre cruise party the night before December 1st.
It will be held at Cameo in Miami Beach. Tickets are $25 in advance and $35 at doors. Meet and greet is $175. Tickets go on sale this Thursday at 10AM ET over at the official website Backstreetboys.com.
