Rollingstone’s Reader’s Poll asking who is the best Boy Band of all time placed the Backstreet Boys at #1 on the list!
1. Backstreet Boys
Backstreet Boys may be the most iconic boy band, at least in the sense that if you asked anyone on the street to describe one, you’d basically get something closely resembling them. The five-piece scored several huge hits, but their 1999 smash “I Want It That Way” is a genre-transcending classic.

Billboard has made a list of the 10 biggest Boy Bands between 1987-2012. The list is based on chart performance on the Billboard 200 and Hot 100.
Backstreet Boys ranked at #2!
Key Hot 100 Hit: “Quit Playing Games With My Heart” (No. 2)
Key Billboard 200 Album: “Millennium” (No. 1 for 10 weeks)
The first group to send seven albums to the top 10 on the Billboard 200 since Sade, the Backstreet Boys not only had a trio of No. 1 albums, but they also tallied up six Hot 100 top 10 hits including well-loved tunes like “I Want It That Way” and “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart).” From their 1996 self-titled debut to 2009′s “This Is Us,” Nick, Howie, A.J., Brian and Kevin have been snagging awards and selling out tours right up to their recent joint trek with New Kids on the Block as NKOTBSB.

Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, and Brian Littrell of The Backstreet Boys at Perez Hilton’s Mad Hatter Tea Party Birthday Bash on Saturday, March 24, where they performed for the birthday boy. During the party, which was held at Siren Studios in L.A., the crooners weighed in on America’s three biggest reality singing competitions: American Idol, The X Factor, and The Voice.
Wetpaint Entertainment: So you’ve obviously been around for a long time and are really big idols to a lot of people out there. Would you ever consider being on Idol and being a judge?
Nick Carter: If they want us. If they’ll let us.
Howie Dorough: If the price is right.
Nick: No, no of course.
Howie: That’s very flattering.
Nick: Yeah, heck yeah! I think one of our songs was actually performed by a couple of the artists on the show a couple of times but if they want us, we’re there with flying bells and whistles, however you want to say us.
Did you see the video of people doing your songs on Idol and did they do it justice?
Nick: Yeah it was actually X Factor — that young girl. She killed it.
Brian Littrell: Yes and on The Voice a guy did “I Want it That Way.”

Last month Howie along with Joey McIntyre did a interview with Digital Spy. Howie discusses a bit about the new album. Howie also recently posted on twitter that he was in LA. So this must mean soon they’ll start working on the new album!
Howie – how is the new Backstreet Boys album coming along?
Howie: “We’re doing a lot of pre-production. We’re getting the producers and writing schedules put together and come the middle of next month we’ll finally get into the actual studio in LA.”
What kind of style do you want to use for the new album?
Howie: “Right now we’re totally in experimentation stages. We’re trying to figure it out, we’re still a little bit unsure if we want a little bit more of what we did in the last record or whether we want to experiment and go in a different direction. We are who we are, we’re a vocal harmony group, so we’re not going to be doing a rock or rap album or anything.”
