What advice would you give to One Direction?

Nick Carter: Have fun and respect everyone on the way up. Sometimes success can make you jaded. Especially when you have a record label or managers pushing you to get that extra buck. It can make you tired and you can lose perspective. Its important to realize you are blessed with the opportunity of being in the business.

What was it like making a guest appearance at the end of This Is The End?

NC: What an amazing experience it was to be in This is the End. Seth [Rogen] and Evan [Goldberg] had the great idea to bring us in. Those guys are comical geniuses. When we got the call we were like, “Hell yeah let’s do it!!” We have been fans of all those guys for years and to be a part of a movie of that caliber was more than an honor. Don’t let them fool ya though, those guys are multi-talented. Seth, Jay [Baruchel] and Craig [Robinson] killed it on the dance moves.

How did it feel to get in the studio with Max Martin again?

NC: Max is like a brother to us. It only felt right to have him back for our 20th anniversary. It’s no secret that he is one of the greatest writers of all time. His melodies soar beyond the borders of most people imaginations. We are such fans of his music. We love him.

Originally, Goldberg and Seth Rogen wanted the main crew to go to heaven and be greeted by none other than Morgan Freeman. “The whole joke was, he shows up, and he’s like, ‘I’m God,’” Goldberg said. “And they’re like, ‘You’re God?’ And Jay [Baruchel] goes, ‘Wait, so when we were in Million Dollar Baby together, were you God then? I don’t get it.’ And then God shows up and he’s like, ‘We’re just fucking with you. This is Morgan Freeman. We just play this joke on people when they come to heaven now. Do you guys want to get high and play some video games?’”

Freeman, however, didn’t want to participate in this joke — “he rejected us for some crazy reason,” Goldberg said. So it was onto plan B, which proved easier to pull off. “The Backstreet Boys were like, ‘Yeah! Of course we would be in heaven,’” Rogen told us. “‘Why wouldn’t we be? We bring joy to the world.’” Rogen, who’s “a huge fan of theirs, honestly,” then demonstrated one of the group’s dance moves for us, putting his hands up near his shoulders and flapping them while shifting to the side. (See him also do it here.) “It was probably the best day I’ve ever had,” Goldberg said. “It was like a childhood dream come true. Fucking Backstreet Boys, come on! I’m the appropriate age where Backstreet Boys were kings and ‘NSYNC were a bunch of goddamned copycats.”

In a bid for timeliness and the “pop of culture” that its tagline suggests, the cable network will launch E!’s Inside Track Summer Concert Series as a regular part of E! News. The effort, a collaboration with Live Nation, will offer viewers a window into the life of some of the day’s biggest musical acts.

The Summer Concert Series will kick off June 21 at 7 p.m. with footage from Pitbull and Ke$ha’s Detroit concert and feature performances from Brad Paisley in Tampa, Jonas Brothers (Chicago), Backstreet Boys (Chicago), New Kids on the Block (Detroit), Big Time Rush (Phoenix) plus Matchbox Twenty and the Goo Goo Dolls (St. Louis).

We talked to the Backstreet Boys last week about their totally unexpected cameo at the end of the movie. Can you tell us how that came together?
When we wrote the script, we had a scene in heaven. And when we were filming, we just — we didn’t write it that well initially, and we were kind of like, “Eh, let’s not do this.” It’s always mine and Evan’s instincts, probably poorly, to end the movie before we actually should. So the actual movie ended with us just getting sucked up into heaven, and you didn’t see what happened. And then when we finished the movie, there was an overwhelming voice of “What the f— happens in heaven?” You want to see what happens. Even when we watched, we were like, “Yeah, you want to see what happens in heaven.” So we were already using the Backstreet Boys song ["Everybody (Backstreet's Back)"] in the movie for when me and Jay were hanging out, playing videogames. We kind of chose it because it’s nostalgic and [we] thought, for the guys, it was a song that they would have listened to when they were younger and hung out and do all the sh— that they’re doing in the scene, basically. And it kind of always played really well. It’s kind of the emotional high point of the movie. It’s when everyone’s the happiest. So we just had the idea: “What if the Backstreet Boys are in heaven?”

They told us that you now owe them a favor and that you should direct their next music video.
Yeah, I’ve heard they want me to do that. I’m open to that.

So what would a Seth Rogen-directed Backstreet Boys video look like?
Well, there’s already one at the end of our movie! [Laughs] Maybe we’ll set this one in hell …

By the time Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel and Craig Robinson make it to heaven at the end of “This Is The End,” one thing is clear: even after the apocalypse, The Backstreet Boys will always come back.

“When it was kind of mentioned that we might get to work with them, it was across the board: ‘Yes, it has to be them,’” Baruchel told HuffPost Entertainment about the Backstreet Boys’ appearance, a group performance of the hit single “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” that takes place inside the pearly gates of the great beyond. “Our tongues are nowhere near our cheeks when we’re dancing with them. Let there be no mistake: We were so goddamned honored.”

According to Baruchel, 31, the heaven sequence was shot over the course of one day, meaning he, Rogen and Robinson had to learn the Backstreet Boys’ famous dance moves in a short amount of time. Not that it mattered.

“We weren’t as prepared as we should have been, which is part of what made it so bloody funny,” Baruchel said.

As Baruchel remembered, the Backstreet Boys — A.J. McLean, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell — meant a lot to him, Rogen and “This Is The End” co-writer and co-director Evan Goldberg when the trio were growing up in Canada.

“It’s a strange little fact about the Backstreet Boys that a lot of Americans don’t know is that the the province of Quebec was a test market for them. This is to say that they came out in Canada and had three or four hit singles in Canada before they ever dropped in the states,” Baruchel said. “A lot of Americans don’t and really, why would you? There’s no reason for you to know that. This basically means that all Canadians are just super well-versed in Backstreet.”

Fortunately for the “This Is The End” star, the group more than lived up to the years of hype. “They were always the ones I liked the most,” Baruchel offered. “They’re really, really good, they always had catchy songs and they could dance like motherfuckers.”

“This Is The End” is out in theaters now.
