PITTSBURGH — Backstreet Boys were back in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, and suddenly 1997 seemed quaint.

Was life really so simple then, that a generation of girls would become smitten by five ballad-belting young men busting cleverly choreographed, PG-rated dance moves?

There are just four Backstreet Boys now — Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, A.J. McLean and Brian Littrell, whose young son, Baylee, was first on stage Wednesday, cutely greeting a few thousand predominantly female fans. Seriously, I haven’t seen the men’s room at a concert so sparsely occupied since 1997, at Lilith Fair.

I uploaded all my videos from the concert in Pittsburgh August 25. I recorded Undone (which unfortunately came out a bit blurry), Incomplete, Larger Than Life, If I Knew Then, I Want That Way, and some of Straight Through My Heart. All I ask is that you don’t download my videos or anything. Enjoy!

For the first time in five years, Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell and AJ McLean brought Backstreet back to the ‘Burgh with the “This Is Us” tour.

The Wednesday evening concert at the Trib Amphitheatre at Station Square marked the first time the band performed here without eldest member Kevin Richardson, who left the group in 2006 to start a family.

The concert’s turnout and venue also were much different from those in the early 2000s. Gone are the hordes of screaming teenage girls filling 20,000-plus capacity arenas, such as when the band’s singles dominated airwaves and topped the countdown of MTV’s now-defunct “Total Request Live.” Wednesday’s show brought out children, younger adults and senior citizens — male and female — to the modest-sized, more simplistic outdoor space, with its folding chairs, asphalt surface and carnival-like food vendors.

I got home from the concert a little over 2 hours ago and let me tell you the best show ever! I posted a review/highlights of the show over at the community. Which will constantly be updated once I remember more stuff. Once my excitement dies down and all I’ll post a better review on the site here. Overall the best show they’ve done. Vocally they sounded amazing and I was standing near the speakers. My view wasn’t so bad either.

I will say that I got some really great shots and video. So expect that in the next few days.

If you’re going to the Backstreet Boys concert in Pittsburgh, PA tomorrow I’ll be there as well in front row section 103. I’ll take tons of pics and videos that I’ll be posting in the days after once I am able to go through all of them. Hope everyone that goes has a great time!

For now here’s the concert poster I had found. Thanks to Tino Coury at Facebook. Click to view full size at the gallery.

Applewood producer/songwriter Rob Wells worked with Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys while the musician was in town over the weekend for a concert at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto.

Wells said he worked with the band on its 2007 album, Unbreakable, and has stayed in touch with the guys since. Carter is working on a solo album and his management contacted Wells to see if he’d be interested in working on some material.

Wells, who has written music for Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and Adam Lambert, invited Christopher Ward (who co-wrote the Alannah Myles’ hit Black Velvet) and Luke McMaster (formerly of McMaster & James) to lend their talents to the creative process. The group met on Sunday at engineer Chris Anderson’s home studio in Applewood and began writing.

The group had just a day to write before Carter had to leave as part of the group’s ongoing North American tour.

Backstreet’s back! And going on the road with New Kids on the Block!

The hip-to-be-square manbands are close to signing a deal with Live Nation Entertainment for a joint U.S. tour in 2011, perhaps as early as March, E! News has exclusively learned.

A source close to the negotiations describes the proposed tour as an Expendables-meets-boy band experience, referring to the action blockbuster starring many beefy stars of yore.
